Process automation opportunity scorecard
Give each criterion 0, 1, or 2 points. The matrix does not replace process discovery, but it quickly shows whether a deeper assessment is worthwhile.
| Criterion | 0 | 1 | 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Frequency | Less than monthly | Monthly or weekly | Daily or many times a day |
| Handling time | Under 15 minutes | 15–60 minutes | More than 1 hour |
| Rules | Mostly judgment | Some repeatable rules | Clear rules with known exceptions |
| Input quality | Missing or inconsistent | Usable after review | Structured and usually complete |
| Error impact | Easy to notice and fix | Creates rework or delay | Creates material cost, risk, or customer impact |
| Systems involved | No reliable access | Exports or partial APIs | Stable API, webhook, database, or files |
0–40–4: simplify the process or improve the data first.
5–85–8: test one step with a small prototype.
9–129–12: the process is a strong automation candidate.
The score is not an ROI promise.
A high score means the process deserves analysis, not that a build is automatically justified. Exceptions, security, data quality, and current operating cost still need verification. A high-risk workflow may require human review even when its rules are clear.
